Yousef Ahmed



Born in Doha, Yousef Ahmed finds inspiration in the region's flat desert landscape and Arabic calligraphy. A collection of his paintings, which are often collages or mixed-media works, are exhibited at Dubai's Artspace Gallery.

Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre presents MinD, which stands for "made in Dubai". This alternative art festival focuses on emerging local talent, showcasing experimental and site-specific works in a range of media, providing an insight into the local art scene.

Bastakiya Art Fair

Coinciding with Art Dubai, the Bastakiya Art Fair fills the historic Bastakiya District and its charming wind-tower houses with Middle Eastern contemporary art. Russian, Lebanese and Pakistani artists exhibit alongside national and international galleries, like B21 Gallery and Saatchi Online.


Enhancing the event is a series of a brunch lectures curated by Rose Isaa and featuring speakers such as Anna Somers Cocks (The Art Newspaper) and Hans Ulbrich Obrist from the Serpentine Gallery in London

Prix PICTET


Addressing social and environmental issues, Prix PICTET gathers a number of international photographers to capture the harmful and often irreversible effects caused by the exploitation of Earth's resources. Their works are exhibited at Dubai's Quarter Fine Art Photography Gallery.

A new theme every year attracts around 300 international candidates from five continents. Shortlisted artists in 2010 include Darren Almond and Chris Steele-Perkins from the UK, Naoya Hatakeyama from Japan and Canadian Christopher Anderson.

Sense of Sight

An exhibition by eight local photographers comes to Dubai Community Theatre


and Arts Centre. Sense of Sight portrays the effects of visual disturbance - either psychologically or through some form of visual impairment - through inspiring artistic output.

The project, in collaboration with Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai, raises awareness of common eye conditions and diseases and awards the winning artist AED10,000 in prize money.
